A Pennsylvania fire station has welcomed a unique duo-father and daughter-who are now serving as firefighters side by side. This relationship not only underscores their personal connection but also highlights a growing trend of family ties within emergency services.

Fourteen-year-old Briella Neidermyer has officially joined Garden Spot Fire Rescue (GSFR) as its newest junior firefighter, making her the youngest female currently serving at the station. This important milestone comes as she follows in the footsteps of her father, Kirk Neidermyer, who has been a volunteer firefighter for 25 years.

A Father’s Pride

Kirk Neidermyer expressed surprise at his daughter’s interest in joining the fire service. He noted that Briella takes her new role very seriously. “She listens, she’s attentive, asks questions, and I’m proud of her,” he stated. Kirk has found that his daughter is eager to learn, showing a real commitment to the role. “Any time she can go to train and learn, she jumps on it. She’s into it. I hope she stays that way, and I think she will,” he added.

Briella’s inspiration to join the fire service stemmed from observing her father’s work. Briella exclaimed, “I’ve always watched him run out of the house and put on that blue light. I’m very, very proud of him because when he shows up, he shows out and does stuff on the scene.”

Her responsibilities include pulling hoses, assisting with hydrant hookups, and retrieving equipment for crews on the scene. She aims to be seen as confident and independent, stating, “I want people to see me as confident and independent, because when I show up, I do my best.”

Briella has shared her heartfelt feelings about being part of GSFR in a post on Facebook. She expressed her gratitude for the bonds she has formed with her fellow junior firefighters and the support from the entire department. “I’m so blessed to be running at GSFR. I’ve created bonds with the other juniors and everyone else. I am so grateful for everyone at GSFR, from teaching me all I need to learn, to being my second home,” she wrote. Briella is enthusiastic about her future in the fire service, thanking her parents for their encouragement.
