- NordPass has added a TOTP authenticator directly to the app
- No more slow, painful switching between login and authenticators
- Authentication can be synced between the app and browser extension
NordPass, recognized as an effective password manager, has enhanced security for its users by integrating a new method of authentication for personal accounts.
The time-based one-time password (TOTP) authenticator is now a built-in feature of the NordPass app, which also includes biometric verification to ensure that authentication codes can only be accessed by the legitimate user.
Users can conveniently autofill authentication codes directly from the NordPass app, eliminating the need to switch to a separate authenticator application.
This new authenticator enables users to autofill codes across different devices using both the mobile app and the NordPass browser extension, streamlining the login process for all accounts.
According to Karolis Arbačiauskas, the head of product at NordPass, “Personal users often rely on multiple apps and methods to manage passwords and second factor authentication codes. This makes login flows inconvenient. Instead of navigating between several applications, NordPass users can now securely access the verification code within the password manager using their biometric data, then copy the authentication code from the vault or autofill it directly on the website.”
To utilize the new TOTP authenticator, users need to add the TOTP setup key for each credential stored in the vault. Once set up, codes will be generated automatically during the login process for the corresponding account.
Traditionally, password managers and authenticator apps have operated as separate entities, which often led to a cumbersome authentication experience. By incorporating the authenticator within the NordPass app, users can enjoy a more efficient and secure login experience.
Implementing two-factor authentication significantly enhances the security of online accounts, reducing vulnerability to phishing attacks and credential theft. Until a universal adoption of passkeys occurs in the digital landscape, using a password manager combined with two-factor or multi-factor authentication is one of the most effective strategies for maintaining account security.
