Nuggets Receive Worrisome Update on Aaron Gordon’s Injury

Aaron Gordon of the Denver Nuggets suffered a re-injury to his right hamstring during a close game against the Milwaukee Bucks on January 20, 2026. This setback raises concerns about his availability moving forward as the Nuggets navigate a challenging injury landscape.

Injury Details

Gordon aggravated a previous hamstring issue that had caused him to miss over a month earlier in the season. Having successfully returned to play in a game against the Boston Celtics just weeks before, he exited the Bucks game after the second quarter and did not return. His previous hamstring injury was a grade 2 strain, which sidelined him for nearly six weeks following the injury during a matchup against the Houston Rockets on November 21.

Nuggets Roster Challenges

Prior to Gordon’s exit from the game, the Nuggets were already managing significant injuries to key players. Nikola Jokic was missing due to a knee bone bruise, while Jamal Murray is also dealing with a hamstring/hip issue. Other team members, including Christian Braun (ankle), Cam Johnson (knee), Peyton Watson (ankle), and Jonas Valanciunas (calf), have been absent from play as well. This left the team in a tough position, having to rely on players like Julian Strawther, who scored 20 points in the win over the Bucks.

Coach’s Insight

After the game, head coach David Adelman expressed concern for Gordon but noted that there was some optimism regarding the severity of the injury. “He’s optimistic it’s not as bad as it was, the last one,” Adelman said. However, he emphasized that further testing was needed to determine a timeline for Gordon’s return, which remains uncertain at this time.

Looking Ahead

The Nuggets have encountered substantial injury challenges this season, with Gordon, Jokic, and others missing multiple games. Despite these setbacks, the team has managed a record of 31-15, holding on to the third seed in the Western Conference. There is a glimmer of hope that a fully healthy roster could take the court after the All-Star break, as Jokic, Braun, and Johnson are expected to return. Whether Gordon will also be among them remains to be seen.
